About the Maker

Cristallo Venezia CCC

Cristallo Venezia CCC is a name recorded on surviving labels attached to Italian art glass associated with Murano. Its documented company history remains limited, and much of the information used by collectors comes from labelled objects and comparisons between related designs. Precise operating dates, individual glassmakers and the organisation behind the label should therefore be treated cautiously.

Labelled examples include sculptural bowls and fish figures. Bowls associated with the name often feature submerged layers of colour, usually described as sommerso, together with substantial clear glass, curled or cut-out rims and, on some examples, a star-shaped base. These are useful comparison points, rather than features exclusive to one factory.

Known foil labels read “Cristallo Venezia” with “CCC” in a banner beneath. A closely related label reads “Artistica Murano CCC”. Their similarity suggests a connection, but does not by itself establish the precise business relationship, a name-change date or that every object carrying either label came from the same workshop.

Care is particularly important with unlabelled glass. The specialist Glass Encyclopaedia explicitly describes much of the attribution in this area as speculative and notes similar work by Formia and Ferro & Lazzarini. A star-shaped base or familiar colour combination alone is not enough to authenticate a maker.

For collectors, the appeal lies in the glass itself and the opportunity to compare surviving examples. Original labels and reliable documented matches provide stronger evidence than style alone; uncertain attributions should remain clearly qualified.
