Collection: Tatsumi Glass (Japan)
Tatsumi Glass is a name associated with Japanese decorative art glass from the later mid-century period. Surviving pieces bearing the Tatsumi label provide a point of reference for collectors, but a detailed factory history has not been established from the sources consulted.
The relationship between the Tatsumi name, the factories producing the glass and its export distribution remains uncertain. It is therefore more accurate to retain that uncertainty than to assign a founding date, named designer or specific furnace without supporting documentation.
Labels are useful evidence, but generic export wording should be treated with care. The 'Best Art Glass, Foreign' label is recorded on Japanese glass associated with other makers, including Sanyu, and should not be treated as proof of Tatsumi manufacture on its own. Original Tatsumi branding and documented comparisons offer a firmer basis for attribution than colour or shape alone.
