Silas Seandel is an American sculptor and artist renowned for bridging the gap between fine art and utilitarian furniture design. Born in New York City in 1937, Seandel established his Manhattan studio in 1963 and became a pivotal figure associated with the Mid-Century Modern and American Brutalist movements.

Working exclusively with solid metals such as brass, bronze, copper, and steel, his pieces are executed entirely by hand using traditional welding and torch-cutting techniques. A defining characteristic of his work is the complete absence of artificial finishes, enamels, or veneers; instead, he achieves vibrant surface colours and deep patinas solely through proprietary heat and acid treatments developed within his studio.

Seandel’s output consists almost entirely of unique, one-of-a-kind commissions and limited-edition items rather than mass-produced lines. His portfolio spans iconic sculptural coffee tables, consoles, and wall-mounted art pieces tailored to distinct spatial requirements, alongside monumental public and corporate installations.
