About Us

Welcome to That Retro Piece. We’re Stan and David, the founders and curators behind the brand.

What began as a personal love for collecting and appreciation of the mid-century modern design aesthetic, eventually grew into something more. We realised we wanted to share these discoveries with fellow design lovers, and that’s how our store came to be - initially as a tiny little Etsy online store back in 2012.

Our brand reflects our personal dedication to collecting and preserving exceptional pieces. Over the years, we have cultivated a deep appreciation for the unique and the timeless; from textured ceramics to captivating hand-blown art glass.

We specialise in mid-century homewares and home decor, predominantly glass and ceramics. Curating vintage isn't just about finding old things either; it's about recognising exceptional craftsmanship and understanding the history associated with every piece. We’re massive nerds for the details too - we spend a ridiculous amount of time researching authenticity and origins, and can likely spend a good amount of time talking to you about every piece that’s come through our doors.

Whether we are researching Japanese glassmakers like Iwatsu, Sanyu, or Hokuyo, or tracking down iconic European ceramics from brands like Bitossi, we care deeply about the history and craftsmanship behind every item we stock. Speaking of, we’re the largest suppliers of Japanese art glass and vintage Bitossi ceramics in Australia, and one of the largest suppliers in the world.

Our continued growth led to the opening of our first bricks-and-mortar boutique in Summer Hill in early 2021. By late 2022, we expanded into a larger, light-filled showroom in Newtown. Situated at the northern end of King Street, this vibrant Sydney space allows us to showcase our evolving collections more beautifully than ever.

It has been an incredible journey, and we are profoundly grateful to share it with such a loyal community of collectors and design lovers around the world.
