Established as a ceramics wholesaler in 1928, Scheurich opened its own factory in Kleinheubach, West Germany, in 1954. It grew to become one of the country's most recognisable manufacturers and exporters of mid-century ceramics between the 1950s and 1980s.
The company is particularly celebrated for its role in the post-war "Fat Lava" movement, producing mass-market pieces characterised by bold geometric forms, vibrant colours, and thick, highly textured glazes.
Much of their mid-century success was driven by prominent designer Heinz Siery, who joined the firm in 1955. Siery frequently employed the golden ratio to design simple, harmonious forms that could be cost-effectively mass-produced and paired with hundreds of different glazes.
While Scheurich ceased producing art pottery in the 1990s, the company remains in operation today as Europe’s market leader for indoor plant pots.
