Founded in 1953 by Czechoslovakian migrants Dagmar and Miloslav Kratochvil, Ellis Ceramics is a cornerstone of mid-century Australian pottery.
Arriving in Melbourne in 1951, the Kratochvils initially established a small studio in their Abbotsford backyard. As their modernist designs gained commercial traction (securing large orders from major department stores like Myer and Grace Bros) the operation expanded to a dedicated factory at 86 Nicholson Street, Abbotsford.
At its peak in the 1960s, the studio employed over 15 staff members, including art students from RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) and international ceramicists, before closing in 1972.

Shade Material Hand-made from vintage fabric, thanks to Retro Duo. The pattern can be seen in a couple different ways, as demonstrated in the images.
Dimensions 50cm (19.5"), tall including the shade.
Wiring Professionally rewired to meet Australian electrical standards, with a switch on the cable. Cable colour is white.
Bulb Fits a standard B22 bayonet light bulb.
Condition Excellent with no wear to mention.

Orders are dispatched within Australia Post via Standard Post. If you require Express Post, please make contact and a quote can be provided.
For most items shipped via Standard Post, shipping is capped at $20 for under 5kg and $30 for greater than 5kg. Shipping for larger items like lamps will vary between $50-$60. Extra larger items such as wall sculptures will vary again.
