About the Maker

Cristal D'Arques

Cristal d’Arques was launched in 1968 by the French glassmaking group now known as Arc. Its roots lie in Arques, northern France, where the group’s glassmaking history began in 1825. The brand belongs to the same family as Luminarc and Arcoroc, but developed its own identity around elegant stemware and the traditions of French table setting.

The group began developing automated crystal-stemware production in the 1960s. This technical innovation helped bring a product previously associated with luxury into a more accessible market, allowing a wider audience to enjoy sparkling glassware for dining, entertaining and celebrations.

Among the brand’s best-known collections is Longchamps, introduced in 1979. Its enduring presence reflects the appeal of richly detailed glassware that combines a traditional decorative appearance with repeatable industrial production. The brand’s later collections continue to balance classic and contemporary approaches to an elegant table.

Although Cristal d’Arques and Luminarc share a manufacturing heritage, their brand histories are distinct. Luminarc was created in 1948 for accessible everyday tableware, while Cristal d’Arques established its reputation through crystal stemware. Materials and manufacturing processes have changed over time, so the composition and care requirements of an individual vintage piece should be established from its own period documentation rather than assumed from a modern collection.
