Collection: Marc Creates (United States)
Marc Creates was established in 1967 by artist and inventor Mark Weinstein in Saint Louis, Missouri. The business grew from an unconventional starting point: his father's scrap-metal yard, where Weinstein began working in 1957 and discovered an abundance of shapes and materials that suggested possibilities beyond their value as scrap.
After learning the basics of welding from a local handyman, Weinstein began experimenting with metal sculpture. By the early 1960s, he was transforming discarded metal into textured works of art, working after hours in a shed at the corner of the yard. His interest in the shapes of everyday objects and the spaces between them became a foundation for his sculptural approach.
An early sale through a local furniture store led to further orders. Exposure at a Chicago furniture show brought interest from sales representatives across the country, and growing demand prompted Weinstein to open a dedicated production studio and showroom in downtown Saint Louis in 1967. By the early 1970s, Marc Creates was producing metal sculptures and furniture for an international market.
Weinstein became particularly associated with multi-dimensional metal wall sculptures, alongside furniture and other designs. His work brought sculptural texture and depth into domestic and commercial interiors, with pieces finding their way into homes, hotels, restaurants and offices.
The Marc Creates website also documents a later collaboration in which Weinstein and his sons recreated vintage designs and developed new work for Artisan House, distributed under the C. Jeré signature. This connection is distinct from the original Marc Creates production: individual pieces should be identified from their own labels, documentation and period catalogues.
