Steuler Keramik was founded in 1917 in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany, and established a strong reputation for its mid-century modern ceramic production. The company is particularly recognised for its output during the 1950s and 1960s, driven by influential designers such as Cari Zalloni and Kurt Schröder.

During this period, Steuler produced modernist and Fat Lava art pottery characterised by geometric designs, bold patterns, and distinctive glazes. Around 1960, the manufacturer transitioned its production from traditional reddish clay to white clay to better support mass manufacturing processes.
