Ellis Ceramics was an Australian pottery set up in 1953 by a Czechoslovakian couple, Dasa and Milda Kratochvil, in the backyard of their home in Abbotsford, Melbourne.
Their work is mainly slip-cast earthenware although they did experiment at one stage with stoneware and also made a small variety of wheel-thrown bowls and plates.
Many pieces are hand decorated or carved, some by art students. This makes each piece individual even when produced from the same mold.
THIS LISTING
A fabulous ceramic table lamp in a stunning lime colour way, circa 1960s. It has a 'fat lava' style drip glaze that runs vertically down the base.
It has been paired with a hand-made lamp shade made out of vintage fabric, courtesy of our friends at Retro Duo. Note that the shade can be used a couple of ways, as per the pictures.
The lamp base is in excellent vintage condition with no wear that we can see.
This beauty measures a massive 94cm (37") tall including the shade. It's huge!
It has been professionally rewired with a new cable to meet Australian electrical standards. Essentially, it's all ready to go!
