Brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson founded Hornsea Pottery in 1949. Beginning life in a kitchen in East Yorkshire, the business initially operated as a provider of small seaside tourist trinkets. Driven by a wide array of design influences and early commercial success, the kiln expanded. Operating far away from the traditional English ceramics heartland of Staffordshire gave Hornsea the freedom to innovate, eventually growing into one of the largest studio potteries in the world, employing over 700 people at its peak.
The company's widespread popularity and rapid growth were driven by its inspirational and groundbreaking design techniques. Influenced by the Rawsons' own textile backgrounds, the factory developed unique, tactile glazing and resist-printing methods. This era of innovation was spearheaded by their chief designer, John Clappison. He became a true icon of British pattern design, capturing the aesthetic spirit of the 1960s and 1970s and elevating Hornsea from a regional pottery into an internationally recognised, award-winning powerhouse

Dimensions 6.5cm tall, 5cm diameter (jar); 35.5cm long (rack)
Condition All pieces are in great vintage condition, with a small amount of surface wear and some light scuffs. No major wear to the wooden rack. The rubber internal to the jar lids have since worn, but are included. No chips, no cracks.
Includes All Spice, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Nutmeg and Peppercorn.
