Founded in Rheinbach in 1921 by Josef Emons & Söhne, the company was split in 1948 (due to financial difficulties resulting from the war). This split formed two factories (ES and Marei). ES Keramik was run by Josef Emons and Marei run by Jean Fuss.

Art ceramics began to be produced by ES Keramik in 1954. Willi Hack was the main designer (1954-74). Hans Kraemer who started in 1952 produced all the shapes until 1968, producing 15-20 designs per year.

By 1971 ES employed around 70 people, but by 1974 the factory was closed.
