Barovier & Toso is the oldest glass company in Italy and its history dates back to as far as 1295.

In 1884 Giovanni Barovier and his nephews Guiseppe, Benvenuto and Benedetto purchase the Salviati Dr. Antonio glass firm after Salviati decides to separate from the glass production business. The contract includes an agreement to retain the “Salviati” name until Antonios death. Consequently it is changed to “Artisti Barovier” in 1890. The company quickly becomes known for their refined glass works and they partake in important exhibitions to promote the business.

The company as it's known today was formed in 1936 with the merge of two glasshouses - Vetreria Artistica Barovier, and Ferro Toso. First known as Ferro Toso Vetrerie Artistiche Riunite S.A. until 1942, and then Barovier & Toso.

These fantastic examples of classic Murano glassmaking are truly a sight to be hold. Measuring approx 66.5cm (26") to the top of the shade and 38cm to the top of the lamp base, these tall beauties are an excellent size - ready to showcase the true craftsmanship of the company.

Created using hand-blown techniques, the soft cream glass is layered with gold leaf throughout, in a bubble or circular design. There are slight differences in the shape and style, a true indication of individual work as every single piece that leaves the workshop has its own unique attributes.

These have been paired with hand-made lamp shades made out of vintage fabric, courtesy of our friends at Retrotastik.

They have also been professionally rewired with new cables to meet Australian electrical standards. Essentially, they're all ready to go!
