Finel was a brand under which Wärtsilä and Järvenpää Emali created enamel kitchenware and tableware items from as early as the 1950s.
Well known Finnish designers such as Seppo Mallat, Antti Nurmesniemi, Heikki Orvola and Kaj Franck designed practical, durable and beautiful pieces by applying a strong glass like cover to cast iron goods.
Respected illustrators Raija Uosikkinen and Esteri Tomula designed patterns for the enamelled products produced for the company – patterns such as Ritari (Knight), Punahilkka (Red Riding Hood), Vegeta and Neptune were some of their well-known illustrations.
The company and its subsidiary Arabia were sold in 1981 to Hackman and then again to Iittala in 2007.
