Collection: JAJ PYREX (England)
JAJ PYREX is the British-made Pyrex associated with James A. Jobling & Co. of Sunderland, England. In 1921, Jobling secured the British manufacturing rights from Corning in the United States. Production began on a small scale in 1922 at the Wear Flint Glass Works, establishing Sunderland as an important centre for British Pyrex.
Jobling’s early Pyrex range followed American designs before expanding to include forms developed for British households, such as teapots and pie dishes. Its oven-to-table glassware became a familiar part of domestic life, while exports carried Sunderland-made Pyrex to markets across the British Empire, including Australia.
In 1973, Corning took over the Sunderland operation. JAJ-marked pieces belong to the Jobling chapter of this history, distinct from later Pyrex England branding. Individual patterns, backstamps and production details remain important when identifying and dating a particular piece.
