An incredible example of brutalist art - a stunning wall sculpture by Curtis Jeré, circa 1968.

Curtis Jeré is a compound nom de plume of founding artists Curtis (Kurt) Freiler and Jerry Fels, who combined parts of their own names to create the C. Jeré signature.

Based in New York, the company was founded in 1963 by Freiler and his brother-in-law Fels. Freiler was the production chief and Fels was head of design. According to an interview with Fels in 2008 and Modernism magazine, their goal was to produce "gallery-quality art for the masses" in their time.

This particular piece - known as 'Birds in Flight' - would likely be one of the company's most well-known decor sculptures. It features a collection of ten birds in brass and copper, flying across a sunburst backdrop. It is slightly elevated from the back, allowing for shadows from the light once in place on the wall.

It measures approx 97cm (38") long and 52cm (20") wide. It is in great to excellent vintage condition with very little surface wear and just the right amount of patina you would expect on one of these spectacular pieces.

A truly incredible piece of art - one that would suit any mid century home decor.
