Traditional Style Vintage Japanese Kokeshi - XXL [Sold Separately]

Kokeshi are Japanese wooden dolls that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children, originating from the northeastern region of Japan.

They are handmade from wood, predominantly cherry or mizuki, and have a simple trunk and head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. In the traditional style of kokeshi they have no arms or legs.

The pattern on the body can vary - sometimes with floral designs and other times with ring designs, mostly painted in red, black and yellow inks then covered with a layer of wax.

A selection of wonderful kokeshi, each sold separately.

These are the largest XXL sizes, which normally range between 45cm and 60cm in height. Due to their sheer size, the weight of these can vary from 1.8kg up to 3kg.

These are vintage items and as such show signs of wear and pre-love. The wood may have darkened, paint may have faded, there might be light scratches, etc.
