Vintage Art Glass Teardrop Vase | Murano Sommerso Glass
An incredible example of sommerso glass, made in Murano, Italy.
Measuring a huge 27.5cm tall and 14cm wide, this sculptured and organically flowing vase certainly has a WOW factor to it.
Sommerso glass, made famous on the island of Murano, involves internally layering different coloured glass to get a submerged effect (the English translation of the Italian word, sommerso).
Whilst we know this is from the island of Murano, we're unable to identify exactly which Italian manufacturer.
This example has magenta and blue submerged in the clear glass, with a blue side panel.
It's in great vintage condition with no chips, cracks or major scratches. There are some bubbles in the glass from manufacturing, some extremely light surface scratches and some nibbles on the base; expected and seen often in these types of pieces.
This is a heavy piece too, weighing in at almost 3kgs!
