Pates Potteries were established by Alfred James Pate in 1946 at Belmore, NSW, with the help of his brother John and nephew Ron. Pate had before then, learnt the pottery trade where he worked, at Fowlers Pottery in Marrickville.

The potteries made by Pates targeted the working class market with their colourful slip cast, and employed over 100 workers in the 1950s. The company made its name by producing several varieties of colourful slip cast domestic wares.

THIS LISTING:

This lovely tall vase is finished in a gorgeous burgundy glaze, with cream peering through the undercoat.

Measuring approx 18cm tall x 19cm wide x 12cm deep it's in great to excellent vintage condition, free from any chips or cracks. Just one tiny glaze flake on the bottom, as per the pictures. This beauty still has its original paper label intact too.

Likely made in the post-war era, when the production of pottery and ceramics flourished in Australia (particularly in Sydney's Inner West).
