On the back of the successful glass making plants in Sydney, Australia, Crown Crystal Glass (later Crown Corning) opened and operated a plant in New Zealand, located in Hornby, Christchurch.

The plant became as successful, if not more so, in glass production across the 1960s and 1970s. They produced everyday glassware that can be found in many New Zealand and Australian households today, as well as around the world, being exported to a number of countries globally including the USA, UK, Netherlands, Germany, and even Scandinavia.

Known as Crown Crystal Glass, the majority of their everyday glassware range across this peak period of production were marketed under the 'Kaaru Glass' brand.
