Ellis Ceramics was an Australian pottery set up in 1953 by a Czechoslovakian couple, Dasa and Milda Kratochvil, in the backyard of their home in Abbotsford, Melbourne.
Their work is mainly slip-cast earthenware although they did experiment at one stage with stoneware and also made a small variety of wheel-thrown bowls and plates.
Many pieces are hand decorated or carved, some by art students. This makes each piece individual even when produced from the same mold.
THIS LISTING
A fabulous ceramic table lamp in a stunning red colour way, circa 1960s. It has a textured, embossed pattern that runs along two horizontal bands around the base.
It has been paired with a hand-made lamp shade made out of the Marimekko 'Lumimarja' fabric, courtesy of our friends at Retro Duo.
The lamp base is in excellent vintage condition with no wear that we can see.
This beauty measures a massive 96cm (38") tall including the shade. It's huge!
It has been professionally rewired with a new cable to meet Australian electrical standards. Essentially, it's all ready to go!
