The Hokuyo brand and glass factory, now owned by ISHIZUKA Glass, has a long history in the Aomori Prefecture of Japan. The company was originally founded in 1949, going on to become Japan's most successful in terms of glass fishing float production.

Across the mid- century period the company produced a range of home decor, sometimes distributed under the Kamei Glass branding.
