Shorter and Son | English Majolica

The pottery firm which later became Shorter and Son was established by Arthur Shorter in 1878, with business partner James Boulton in Stoke-on-Trent. Their products were focused in the mainstream of Victorian taste; majolica ware of all types including jugs, bowls, flower pots, tableware and the like.

Fast forward to 1940, Arthur's son Colley married renowned artist Clarice Cliff who became Artistic Director of the group. Shorter’s flourished for the following two decades, producing popular new lines and re-producing some of their old ones.
